Monitoring
The
French academic research in network monitoring started with the METROPOLIS project. This project
helps to structure this research community whose members are still working
together, in particular because of the measurement and monitoring platform,
deployed in the framework of METROPOLIS, and which is still working.
The
French academic platform is located at the RENATER edges, RENATER being the
French network for education and research. It consists of 3 kinds of monitoring
/ measurement equipments:
-
DAG boxes for microscopic passive monitoring
-
QoSMOS boxes for macroscopic passive monitoring and applicative
classification
-
RIPE TTM boxes for active measurements. These boxes also run NIMI and
PANDORA, as well as MetroMI, a software specifically developed in the framework
on the Metropolis project
For storing and
analyzing the traffic traces, we use:
2 Poweredge 4600 servers
Bi-Pentium Xeon 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 8 x 73 GB
Archivage : DLT1
1 PowerEdge 6650 server
Bi-Pentium Xeon 2.2 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 5 x 146 GB
1 PowerVault PV220S SAN
HD: 14 x 300 GB
Traffic
characterization and analysis tool:
We have been working in METROPOLIS, and we are still working
on developing a tool for characterizing and analyzing Internet traffic. This
tool is: Zoo.
Traffic traces:
Traffic traces (for authorized members only) are
available here.
