Miniaturized Pyro Devices, Fuzing, Safety and Arming Elements
We propose to use MEMS related technology to fabricate miniature Safe and Arm System.The main functions of a SAF device are to keep the nanothermite based initiator safe (a screen Interrupts the explosive train), to arm it (the screen or the nanothermite initiator chip is mechanically removed from the safe position) and to ignite a secondary explosive or propellant). Several architectures have been designed to meet the industrial product requirements and miniature SAF devices developed.
